What is compounding?
Compounding is the act of creating a custom formulation of medication for the unique needs of a patient that is not commercially available. Some examples of compounding include:
- Adjusting a formulation to remove any allergens like dyes, gluten, or lactose that is contained in commercially available medications
- Adding flavors to a medication to make it more palatable for a patient (like adding flavors for children or for pets)
- Changing a formulation so that it is easier for the patient to take, like when a medication is commercially available in only pill form, we can create a liquid form for a patient that cannot take pills
- Adjust the strength or dose of a medication to a specific dose

- Lihue Pharmacy Inc. are licensed and permitted as a Non-Resident Pharmacy to perform Sterile Compounds (i.e Atropine Eye Drops) in the state of Hawaii, California, Colorado, Arizona, Rhode Island, New York
- Hawaii Home Infusion Associates Ltd. is also accredited by ACHC for DME, Infusion Nursing Services, Infusion Pharmacy Services (including Sterile Compounding).
